| COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS
Annual eye exams and vision testing are recommended for patients of all ages. During your annual exam, we provide the following:
- Complete review of patient history
- Visual acuity testing
- Stereo acuity and Fusion tests are performed to evaluate depth perception and eye teaming ability. Poor depth perception can be a result of an eye turn (Strabismus), or neurological abnormality, which if left untreated could lead to permanently reduced vision (Amblyopia). These tests are especially important for children in detecting perceptual problems and poor binocularity that could affect their performance in school and sports.
- Intraocular pressure is checked mainly for Glaucoma (typically a high eye pressure of fluid inside the eye which leads to optic nerve damage).
- Visual Field Exam: A computerized test to check central and peripheral vision, helpful in diagnosing and following conditions that affect side vision such as Glaucoma and other visual or neurological abnormalities.
- Refraction: performed yearly to determine and monitor your prescription for glasses or contact lenses, to ensure you’re seeing as clearly as possible, and to detect any loss of best corrected vision potentially caused by a visual anomaly.
- Biomicroscopy: A detailed microscopic exam of all eye anatomy to check for abnormalities, conditions, or disease.
- Dilation: Drops are used to dilate the pupil (window into the eye) which allow a more complete and broader view of the peripheral retina, where certain degenerations can make one more susceptible to retinal detachment. This test is recommended for both baseline and yearly exams, especially if symptoms are present such as flashes, floaters, veils or curtains in your vision.
